Pricing Guide 2026
German Voice Over Rates & Pricing Guide 2026 – What International Clients Pay
Transparent pricing for professional German voiceover work — from a single IVR phone prompt to a full e-learning series. Understand what a German native speaker costs, what affects the price, and how to get an accurate quote.
German voice over pricing varies widely, and that can make it hard to budget a project without knowing what you are actually paying for. A quick search will turn up everything from €15 per minute on an AI platform to €2,500 for a 30-second TV commercial — and both can be entirely reasonable depending on the use case.
The base recording fee covers the artist's time, studio costs and technical delivery. Usage rights — the license to broadcast or distribute the recording — are charged separately and depend on where, how widely and for how long the recording will be used. A phone prompt that plays inside one office costs far less to license than a TV spot running nationally for 12 months.
This guide breaks down both components clearly so you can build an accurate budget before you go out to quote. For ready-made pricing, see the pricing page.

What factors influence the price?
Five variables drive the majority of price differences between otherwise similar projects.
1. Usage rights and platform
This is the single largest price variable. Online-only usage (web, social, streaming) carries the lowest license fee. Broadcast usage — television, cinema, radio — carries a significantly higher fee because it reaches larger guaranteed audiences and carries exclusivity implications for the artist. Confirm your usage scope upfront; it affects the total cost more than any other factor.
2. Territory
A recording licensed for use in one country costs less than one licensed for the entire DACH region or worldwide. For most online projects, worldwide usage is standard and the most practical choice. For broadcast campaigns, territory is typically specific: "Germany only" or "German-speaking territories" (Germany, Austria, Switzerland).
3. Broadcast medium
Television commands the highest buyout rates, followed by cinema, then radio. Online usage is the lowest category. If your campaign spans multiple media — for example, a TV spot that is also used online — the rate is based on the highest-value usage in the mix.
4. Script length and complexity
Longer scripts naturally cost more, but complexity also plays a role. A 3-minute factual explainer is simpler to record than a 3-minute dialogue-style script requiring multiple emotional registers. Technical scripts (medical, legal, financial) that require additional care and may involve more takes are typically priced at the upper end of the relevant range.
5. Turnaround
Standard turnaround (1–2 business days) is included in the base price. Same-day or next-morning delivery is available for a rush surcharge, typically 25–50% on top of the standard fee depending on the length and scheduling constraints.
Usage rights and buyout explained
When you commission a voice over recording, you are purchasing two things: the recording itself (the performance) and a license to use it (the usage rights). These are separate cost components, and confusing them is a common source of budget overruns.
What "online buyout" means
An online buyout is a one-time payment that grants you perpetual, worldwide rights to use the recording on digital platforms: your website, YouTube, LinkedIn, paid social media advertising, streaming services and internal digital communications. You pay once and can use the recording indefinitely online without further license fees.
What "broadcast buyout" means
A broadcast buyout licenses the recording for use on television or radio for a defined period (typically 12 months) in a defined territory. After the period expires, the license can be renewed for an additional fee. Broadcast buyouts are higher because television and radio reach much larger audiences and carry exclusivity implications — a voice heard in a major TV campaign is less available for competitor use.
Typical buyout ranges (60-second read)
| Usage | Territory | Duration | Buyout Range |
|---|---|---|---|
| Online (web, social) | Worldwide | Perpetual | Included / €0 extra |
| Radio | Germany | 12 months | €400 – €1,200 |
| Radio | DACH | 12 months | €600 – €1,800 |
| TV | Germany | 12 months | €800 – €2,500 |
| TV | DACH / Worldwide | 12 months | €1,500 – €5,000+ |
These are indicative ranges. Actual buyout fees depend on the brand category, the reach of the campaign and the specific channels involved. Always confirm usage in writing before recording begins.
Marketplace vs. direct — what is cheaper?
Casting platforms like Voices.com, Bodalgo and Voice123 charge a commission of between 20–30% on top of the artist's quoted fee. On a €400 project, that is an additional €80–€120 paid to the platform. Over multiple projects, this adds up significantly.
Booking directly with a professional German voice over artist removes the platform fee entirely. The total cost is lower, communication is more direct, and repeat projects benefit from an established working relationship. The trade-off is that you need to do more upfront work to identify and vet the right voice — which is exactly what demos, test reads and a clear brief are for.
For agencies managing multiple German-language projects per year, direct booking with a single trusted artist consistently delivers better value than marketplace casting for every job. See our pricing page for current direct rates, or browse voice over services by category.
VAT and invoicing for international clients
VAT (Mehrwertsteuer) applies differently depending on where you are located and whether you are a registered business.
Non-EU clients (USA, UK, Canada, Australia, etc.)
Voice over services are classified as digital services under EU tax law. For clients located outside the EU, German VAT does not apply. Your invoice will show 0% VAT. You pay the net amount only, with no additional tax.
EU clients with a valid VAT ID
If your company is registered in an EU member state and provides a valid VAT identification number, the reverse charge mechanism applies. Your invoice will note "Reverse Charge — VAT to be accounted for by the recipient." You self-account for VAT in your own country at your local rate.
EU clients without a VAT ID
If you are an EU-based client without a VAT ID (for example, a private individual or a non-VAT-registered business), German VAT at the current rate (19%) will be added to your invoice.
Currency and invoicing
All invoices are issued in EUR. International bank transfer (SWIFT/BIC) and PayPal are accepted. Credit card payments can be arranged. For US clients, an equivalent USD amount can be noted on the invoice for reference, based on the exchange rate at the time of invoicing.
How to get an accurate quote
The more information you provide when requesting a quote, the faster and more accurate the response will be. Vague enquiries ("how much for a voiceover?") require a back-and-forth that delays the project. A complete brief gets you a firm quote within one business day.

Frequently asked questions
There is no minimum word count, but most projects have a session minimum that reflects the setup time and production effort involved. For very short scripts such as a single phone prompt, a flat project rate applies rather than a per-minute calculation. Contact us for a specific quote on any project size.
Yes. Payment by credit card, PayPal and bank transfer (SEPA or international wire) is accepted. For new clients, payment is typically required before final file delivery. For ongoing clients with an established relationship, 14-day net invoicing is available.
Yes, for clients with regular ongoing needs — for example, a phone system that needs monthly prompt updates, or an agency managing multiple client campaigns in German — a monthly retainer can be arranged. Retainers include a set number of recording minutes per month at a reduced per-minute rate. Contact us to discuss what would work for your volume.
The base price includes recording, basic editing (silence trimming, noise removal), one round of revisions and delivery as a dry WAV or MP3 file. Music composition, sound design, mixing with a music bed and translation services are quoted separately.
